Selby CX Challenge

An Epic Failure!

Deliberated all week with Phil Woolley with what to wear and what bike to ride.

Should it be the mountain bike?

Or should it be Selina the shiny new Scott, imported straight from South Africa?

I’d never heard of CX races before.

The road bike gives an advantage on the flats, the MTB would give an advantage over the fields? Fields? WTF

The first 5 miles went off-road and then up a single track mud lane.

First puncture.

Across a river bed and followed a stream.

Second puncture. FFS.

Managed to get on a road and make up some time, before Ssssss. Third puncture.

I only ever carry two spare inner tubes, and was now at the back of the field.

I can’t remember how long (or short the actual route was. Maybe 60 miles.

If I completed 30 miles I was lucky.

Managed to hitch a lift back to Race Control. And wait for Phil. FFS.

And that was the first and last time I entered a CX race on a road bike with 23 mm tyres.

Muppet.
